Courtenay Tooth – “Perception” Art Exhibition in Watercolour
February 17, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Downward Dog Co Café and SpliTMInds are proud to present our next exciting new art exhibition, featuring the works of Courtenay Tooth of “Court in Colour”. This exhibition will feature a stunning selection of Courtenay’s watercolour “Perception” series.
Artist Statement – “I paint people. Characters. These people have become my not-so-imaginary friends. What we perceive of these characters, is a reflection of our individual perspective. In the same way in which we perceive those around us, and ourselves. In this way, these figures, and what I interpret of them, changes over time – they grow with me. I wonder if I ever see them for who they truly are, if clarity can ever truly exist through our filters. There is far more to our existence than what is perceived.”
Courtenay’s “Perception” Exhibition will begin on Saturday the 17th of February and officially launch at 6pm.
Come down to the restaurant and join the artist for free antipasto and a glass of wine during the opening hour.
Call (02) 4473 5583 to make a dinner reservation and enjoy a relaxed evening of good food and great art!
This Exhibition will be on display at the café from Saturday the 17th of February to the 17th of March.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Courtenay Tooth is a local watercolour artist who also goes by the name of “Court in Colour”.
At 26 years old, she has lived in many places, most recently from Melbourne, now living in Moruya. Courtenay has been painting throughout her whole life, though has only been selling her works since 2012. Courtenay finds herself drawn to faces and moments of honest expression. The moments that remind her that people are infinitely complex creatures, and are all mad in their own unique way. Her love of faces was highlighted through a workshop with Archibald winner Cherry Hood, where she believes she gained the bulk of her creative knowledge.
Courtenay says “I don’t create picture perfect people, instead aims to highlight the complex nature of us as individuals, the weird and wonderful, windswept and interesting. The people I paint are fictional characters, and I’ve come to believe that they create themselves, and they take on a personality of their own. Above all, I paint whatever comes out, and hope that it’s interesting.
