ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shane Hetherington graduated from Newcastle Art School with a Bachelor of Art Education and then completed a Postgraduate course in painting at the same institution.
He has been teaching art in NSW secondary schools for over thirty years, and has been a participant in solo and group shows during that time. This is Shane’s first exhibition for some time, after concentrating on studio practice and the development of several threads of thinking about artmaking and the evolution of a symbolic language closely tied to his life and interests. He has practiced painting for over forty years but still finds each work a challenge
He is a resident of Canberra and is a regular visitor to the South Coast. Over the past couple of years these visits have inspired a series of artworks about the coast and its landforms, the beaches, the colours and patterns of water. A selection of this coastal series is on display in this exhibition. This exhibition is an opportunity to show these works to an audience that is familiar with the light found along the coast. The South Coast is unmatched in its beauty and these works attempt to capture the feeling of pristine, jewel like unspoiled nature.
